Don’t take your phone out to text

Pace yourself to finish at the same approximation time as the host or hostess

To pace yourself for group dining, you should finish at the same time as the host or hostess. It is also a good idea to stay for at least one hour after serving the meal. This way, you will be sure to leave the dinner party without leaving the table, and you will also be able to give a thank you note to the host or hostess after the meal. You will often be invited to help clean up afterward, but you can offer to do so later if you prefer.

If you have to leave the dining room during the meal, put your napkin on the table to the left of your plate. This will ensure that the napkin remains in place until you are ready to depart.
